BANDA — Designed with intention. — built to feel like the brand.

What is Banda?

Banda is a Ghanaian clothing brand built around culture, identity, and community. Banda isn’t tied to just one category or style and although the designs reflect the energy of the streets, the brand’s spirit is deeply community-driven. The people are just as important as the product and in the words of its founders ... ”Banda isn’t just worn — it’s lived in, shared, and shown off.”

What needed to be designed?

Banda wanted an experience that felt as elevated as the clothes they were putting out. The reference point? Think Nike, Balenciaga, Gucci — web experiences that let the product shine by stripping away the noise. They didn’t want a typical online store. They wanted a canvas — something minimalist and premium, where the clothes and community could take center stage.

What inspired the design direction?

We leaned heavily on something Virgil Abloh once said: “If I put this candle in an all white gallery space it looks like a piece of art. If I put this candle in a garage it looks like a piece of trash. I can either spend my time designing the candle or I can spend my time designing the room that it sits in.” You can either focus on your art.(which Banda handled) Or you can focus on the space and narrative for your art. (which I was tasked to handle) That’s the energy we carried through every part of Banda’s digital presence — the product is the art. The site is the room.

What did you design?

I designed both the website and the in-store digital experience for Banda — for both web and mobile. The site is intentionally minimal. Every scroll, click, and interaction was crafted to feel premium without being loud. The visuals lead. The UI almost disappears.

What does the site include?

  • Homepage – A clean, image-first layout with big visuals and small statements.
  • The Shop – Minimal grid, bold photography, zero distractions.
  • Show Us Your Banda – A gallery of real people in real looks. Community at the center.
  • Upcoming Events – IRL energy, listed beautifully and simply.

What did you learn?

When the product is strong, you don’t need to over-design. Sometimes the best thing you can do is get out of the way. With Banda, the job wasn’t to decorate — it was to create space.
